March 22-24, 2013 - 40 members from 5 squadrons in Finger Lakes Group participated in a full weekend of Search and Rescue training at the 3,900 acre BSA Camp Cutler in Naples, NY.  Activities started Friday evening with a safety briefing, introduction of staff, and dividing into teams to setup ground-to-air signals for Saturday.  Saturday morning the teams spent time working on search skills, communication, navigation, and first aid.  Saturday afternoon the teams participated in a camp wide missing person search, learning to interact with witnesses, navigate rugged country, work as a team among teams, and assist in the transport of an injured victim.  Saturday evening the teams were introduced to the nuances of searching at night for an Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT or EPRB).  Sunday morning we were joined by members of the NY Federated SAR and Mississauga SAR teams, working with search dogs.  Looking forward to the next bivouac in August.
